In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the High Street was populated with great visual diversity not least from the likes of Biba which had a flagship store in London until its closure in 1975. While the retail outlet founded by Barbara Hulanicki may have long gone her legacy fashion statement clothes for women have not. The Biba look of ‘ elegance with attitude’ continues today , and you can buy into a piece of it at House of Fraser.
Biba took a ‘retro’ move away from the earlier sixties styles, and took inspiration from Art Nouveau in particular; the iconic Biba logo in gold with its celtic interlacing swirls hinted at what the customer should expect ,with echos of earlier designers of the likes of Aubrey Beardsley and Alphonse Mucha.
