Just now Marks and Spencer has a collection of floor lighting that reflects an accent on retro – spindle legs, angular -armed, or over-arching, with sharp bold shades, and so on – and there are reductions in price, currently. The above lamp seems most familiar. Perhaps a design in the style of the Castiglioni brothers? It is not the same as theirs, but neither is the price. It is a pleasing lamp all the same, and certainly looks good value for money. It can dominate a corner of the living room, or illuminate a dining area.A floor lamp can make a bold statement and can make a difference in a small, or a large space. For this and a whole collection of bright and stylish lighting to lift your mood on an otherwise gloomy winter go and see more here at Marks and Spencer while current prices hold. The lamp above will set you back just short of 100 pounds, a good deal less than some contemporary designs from yesteryear – floor lamps from M&S . Oh, and you can save money ,too!

Verner Panton is one of our favourite designers of lighting and furniture. He was working in the second half of the 20th century, and arguably was at his most productive in the 1960s producing some spectacular and sought after designs. Here is a truly elegant pendant light, almost a sculpture of an onion showing the distinctive layered design which is produced by slender metal vertical strips. The lines are so clean; the light given-off is indirect. The light hangs on a black fabric cord, the whole from a chrome ceiling rose. It is engraved with Verner Panton’s signature.

There are many Arco inspired lights available to buy, and if you can’t afford the real thing you can find a good reproduction for one or two hundred pounds. Good design does not always have to cost a great deal, and in this current age of austerity we shall be looking across a great price range for the best and most appealing designs. The Flos Arco Floor Lamp, unfortunately, appears only to be full of price, perhaps for some a little pricey, however it is an original of a style classic and a product of the Castiglionis’ iconic design.
With its arching telescopic stainless steel stem, and white carrara marble base – Michaelangelo favoured this latter material – the Arco light does not show a trailing lead when reaching far into a room and over a dinner table. This problem with unsightly wires was a big one for Achille Castiglioni that for him demanded to be solved in the design of his light. The Flos Arco Floor Light is elegant and practical , and you can see this product at the Heal’s website- excellent materials used in the manufacture of a top design.

1935 was a particularly special year: Elvis Presley was born, and also the 1227 Anglepoise lamp with its three-springs design was produced for market. George Carwardine had designed his essential spring for his first lamp in 1932. These springs were used in series so as to enable the user to position the light wherever it was needed within its reach, confident that it would stay put. Reissued to celebrate its 75th Anniversary, the Original 1227 is made with aluminium arms and a heavily weighted base for extra stability. Supplied with an energy saving bulb.
Dimensions : Reach 70 cm, Shade 20 cm, Base 14 cm, Cable length 2 m

This elegant pendant light is stark in its apparent simplicity. Designed by Verner Panton, this light looks as crisp and as relevant today as it did in 1971, when it first appeared.
It has been described as colourful and playful.
It features two hemispheres facing each other…[Read more about this timeless classic...]
